Brief Description of Activity:
As a class we will go on a virtual tour of The Museum of Modern Art and discuss some specific pieces to target outcomes of Level 2, Component 2 in the Grade 3&4 Art Program of Studies. Students will continue on their own tour and select one artwork for which they will research and present to the class using technology.
General Learner Outcome:
A Cultural Experience: an appreciation for artistic accomplishments, past and present.
Specific Learner Outcome:
APPRECIATION: Students will interpret artworks by examining their context and less visible characteristics.
A. Contextual information (geographical, historical, biographical, cultural) may be needed to understand works of art.
Artistic style is largely the product of an age.
C. Technological change affects types of art.
Our associations influence the way we experience a work of art. E. Art is valued for different reasons; e.g., aesthetic, economic, symbolic, associative. F. Art serves societal as well as personal needs.
ICT Outcomes:
C.1.2.1 access and retrieve appropriate information from the Internet by using a specific search path or from given uniform resource locations (URLs)
F.2.4.7 use current, reliable information sources from around the world
P.3.2.2 access available databases for images to support communication
Rationale for Computer Integration:
Virtual tours provide access to art and artists that the students may otherwise not have the opportunity to experience. Access to view master artists work will enhance their appreciation for the technical, aesthetic and compositional aspects of art. Utilizing technology will build 21st Century Skills.
